📚 Top 100 Resources for Product Managers

This week, I got tired of reading yet another blog post that promised to teach how to craft a product vision, and instead resorted to hand-wavy explanations.

I decided to test an idea:

I wish instead of hand-wavy blogs on product vision & strategy etc, there was a place where you could see 100’s of real-world examples of these artifacts - both good and bad - with reasons why they’re good or bad. Shall I make this?

I asked for pre-orders to validate the demand:

It didn’t work out. Only 2 people bought it for $49:

Only 2 sales Of course if more people saw this + the price was lower, you’d expect it would have hit > 20 For me though, that’s the price/appetite.

But out of this came a great resource that I had missed, and from a source I respect a lot:

Something more lighthearted today.

This video went viral recently, and since so many people talk about or worry about layoffs, I found it helpful to watch this & release that pressure:

The most common thing I see that holds product leaders (and rising PMs) back is ego. They: - dismiss CEO and exec insight - take too much pride in process - spend too much time on optics - explain away bad results - don’t ask for help

Who's George?

It’s me

I’m an underdog product manager.

Product management in New Zealand (where I live) is still a relatively immature discipline. I also came into it late via data science and UX. I may be older than others, but I often feel like a rookie.

To become better at my craft, I learn and explore new ideas relentlessly.

Then I share high-quality, tried-and-true ideas that can be used right away.

How I can help you:

  • If you’re learning about product as a cross-functional leader, I’ve compiled my best actionable finds in prodmgmt.world.

  • Get some help via prodmgmt.help. People ask about How to prioritise, How to do market research, how to work with engineers, how to go from a service to a product, how to develop a deep coherent product strategy, what books to read and courses to take on product topics & design systems product management.

see you next week.

— George.
